How many screens do you have in your home? No, not just television screens – include televisions, phones, computers, tablets, phones and gaming consoles. We’re betting that you have more than you even realize.
The average home now has anywhere between 5 and 10 screens. In addition to having so many screens in the home, many people also use multiple screens at the same time. Think for a second. When was the last time you sat and watched TV without your phone nearby?
There is simply no denying that we, as a society, have a technology addiction. There are many people, though, that just don’t believe that they have an addiction, even though you rarely see them without their phone or device nearby.

If you want to help your family avoid the pitfalls of the tech addiction, it’s good to remember the benefits that you will get from cutting it out, even for just a couple of days. In case you are wondering what those benefits are, here are just 5 reasons that you should have a tech-free weekend.

1. More time to spend with family. Put down the screen and visit your kids. You won’t regret it.
2. You Can Make More Memories. Would you rather look back on your weekend and say “I watched some good movies and spent a lot of time online or would you rather say “Wow, I had so many fun adventures”?
3. No More FOMO. That’s right. Turning off your phone or device can give you peace from the constant fear of missing out (FOMO). The fact of the matter is that people show the best parts of their lives (often edited) on social media and these FOMO feelings that weigh you down are often unwarranted.
4. Encourages Imagination. Do you remember being a kid? Remember how great it was to just play? A great game of make-believe was just about the greatest thing ever.
5. Increases Productivity. Have you ever gone on a “Facebook Binge”? Turning off social media (and technology in general) has the ability to significantly increase your productivity. If you have any big projects coming up, that is a great time to have a tech-free weekend. You will get more done and get it done much more quickly.

These are just a small number of the reasons that you should have a tech-free weekend, in reality, the list goes on and on.  Make a habit of having tech-free time on a regular schedule and your family will thrive.
