Tips for Traveling with Kids for the Holidays

Traveling with kids is not for the faint of heart!
“Are we there yet?”
“He’s touching me!”
“I have to go to the bathroom!”
By the time you get to your destination, you may be ready to drink some Gooseneck wine directly out of the bottle!
We have a few tips that can help eliminate some stress and make your holiday trip a little easier.

1. Update electronics: Load up your tablet with a few new games, movies, apps that can be used offline. That should keep them busy for a while, but do NOT forget the charger!
2. Play games: I Spy, the Alphabet Game and the Licence Plate Game are classics for a reason! Especially if you’re stuck in traffic.
3. Portable DVD players: Bring along their favorites – and a few new ones to grab their attention. If they don’t share the same taste in movies or shows, have them take turns.
4. Plan pit stops: Make sure that you have your bathroom breaks planned out in advance, with time left in for stops for emergencies or diaper changes if you have wee ones. That way when they complain, you can tell them an approximation of when you’ll be at the next one.
5. Bring a cooler with snacks: Skip the fast food and fill a cooler with veggies, fruits, juice boxes, water bottles, yogurts, sandwiches and more. This will limit the amount of money that you’re spending while on the road, and everyone has access to something to tide them over until the next meal time.
6. Make breaks fun: If you’re staying overnight at a hotel, try to find one with an indoor pool. This will give them something to look forward to… and it will wear them out after a long day in the car!
When things get rough, just remember, this too shall pass, and someday you’ll miss the noises coming from the backseat!
