Why even add red wine and cranberries to brownies? Brownies are pretty much a perfect food already, right? But when you consider how well chocolate and red wine go together, it makes perfect sense! This recipe is such a hit at parties! You need to choose your wine carefully here. Gooseneck Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon has the flavors of blackberries and strawberries that compliment the chocolate and cranberries in these delicious brownies!
1½ sticks unsalted butter
1 cup milk chocolate chips
½ cup cocoa powder
¼ teaspoon salt
3 large eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
¾ cup all-purpose flour
¼ teaspoon baking powder
½ cup dried cranberries
1/2 cup chocolate chips (we use semi-sweet)
¼ cup red wine, preferably Gooseneck Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
Preheat the oven to 350F and grease an 8 by 8-inch square pan.
In a small saucepan, melt the butter with chocolate chips, cocoa powder, and salt over medium heat.
In a large bowl, mix the eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract. Remove melted chocolate/butter mixture from pan and let cool for at least five minutes. After five minutes, whisk in the sugar and eggs (VERY important to let it cool first – if it’s not cool enough, you will have chocolate scrambled eggs!).
Add the flour, baking powder, chocolate chips and cranberries until well mixed. Drizzle in the red wine last and fold in.
Scrape batter into pan and bake 35-45 minutes until top is set but don’t over cook
These taste best if you let sit overnight in the refrigerator and cut into squares to be enjoyed.
